I ordered this to replace one of those 'blade like' strainers that are awkward to remove from a steamer pan. I use it to cook pasta noodles and veggies. It works for those but doesn't have feet that will allow it to stand above the water I use or on the countertop when I'm removing the hot veggies. The holes are smaller than my current strainer and, therefore, take longer for water to drain when filling or extracting. The metal isn't as heavy as that of my current strainer. It will likely get dented pretty easily over time. Overall, it's better than the awkward 'blade' strainer I've been using!
